Lindsay Hawker Leeds University graduate was found dead in a sand-filled bath on the balcony of an apartment in east Tokyo in March 2007.
Lindsay, 22, had gone to Japan to work as an English teacher.
Her death sparked a nationwide manhunt and her family frequently traveled to the country to assist the investigation.
Ichihashi, 30, spent more than two and a half years on the run before his arrest last month at a ferry port in Osaka, southern Japan.
It is thought he might have been attempting to board a ferry to Okinawa, a chain of islands at the southern tip of Japan.
On the 10th November 2009 he was caught after a surgeon came forward with information about surgery he had reportedly undergone to change his appearance. We filmed the public announcement from the Hawker family in Coventry for broadcast on national TV news.
